Colgate University
Founded in 1819, Colgate University is a private coeducational liberal arts institution located in Hamilton. As of 2012, total enrollment at Colgate consisted of 2,969 students. The student population represents 49 states and 45 countries. The average class size is 18 students. Colgate offers 52 majors and nine minors. Majors offered include environmental studies, international relations, and natural sciences. In 2012, the Colgate faculty consisted of 286 members.

Hamilton College
Hamilton College is a private coeducational liberal arts college. The Hamilton campus is located in Clinton. At Hamilton, enrollment consists of 1,820 students. The student body comes from 47 states and 38 countries, and is 53 percent female. Hamilton is highly selective, in fall 2011 the acceptance rate was 27.4 percent. Hamilton offers 50 areas of study. A few of the areas of study offered include chemical physics, argumentative research paper topics, government, religious studies, and communications.

Vassar College
Founded in 1861, Vassar College is a private liberal arts college. The scenic 1,000-acre Vassar campus is located in Poughkeepsie. In 2012, there were 2,400 students enrolled at Vassar. The student body consists of international students from 50 countries. The average class size is 17 students. Vassar students may choose from over 50 majors. Popular majors include economics, political science, and biology. In 2012, the faculty consisted of over 290 members.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Established in 1824, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) is a private research university and one of the top colleges in NY. The RPI campus is located on 275 acres in Troy. In fall 2011, RPI had 5,238 full-time undergraduate students and 6,914 total students. Across five schools, RPI offers over 145 programs of study at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate levels. Majors offered include mechanical engineering, cognitive science, applied physics, and biology.

University of Rochester
The University of Rochester (UR), founded in 1850, is a private nonsectarian coeducational research university. The main UR campus is located on 154 acres in Rochester. During fall 2012, enrollment was comprised of 5,512 undergraduate and 3,303 graduate students. Students may choose from 60 undergraduate majors, as well as 30 programs of study. UR offers a unique curriculum and does not require specific subjects of its students. The fall 2012 UR faculty and staff consisted of 21,881 members.
